Forest Temple

🌿 Twilit Parasite: Diababa

A massive parasitic plant creature mutated by Zant's Fused Shadow. Diababa controls two vine tentacles with explosive flower pods. The battle requires chaining Gale Boomerang throws to stun the central head, then attacking with your sword.

Chapter 4 2 phases

Before you enter the arena

Twilight Princess dungeon bosses punish poor prep more than mechanical execution: empty bottles, low arrow counts, or missing dungeon items inflate difficulty spikes unrelated to reaction time. Pause at the doorway, confirm your last bench save isn't hours back, then walk in with stamina (real-life and in-game hearts) to spare.

On Dusk, mouse-look gyro hybrids feel best when you stabilize camera sensitivity before red reticle puzzles—many of these chambers lean on projectile timing. Steam Deck explorers should skim Steam Deck setup if trackpad gyro feels sluggish after a Steam update.

Story context refresher: revisit Chapter 4: Forest Temple if you routed away from dungeons mid-act and forgot which item solves which gate.

Pre-fight checklist

  • Ride or warp to replenish hearts—don't lean on RNG food drops unless you thrive on chaos.
  • Confirm projectile ammo (bows, bombs, magic if applicable) clears minimum thresholds called out below.
  • Toggle Dusk Instant Save only outside combat windows; misuse turns tense phases into tedious reload mills.
  • Disable experimental HUD-altering mods if camera anchors feel offset—overlay bugs masquerade as skill issues.

Recommended kit

Required: Gale Boomerang

Optional comfort picks: Hero's Bow

Fight beats

This is the introductory dungeon boss — straightforward once the boomerang chain mechanic clicks. Keep moving to avoid the central head's sweeping bites. If you run out of Bomblings, more spawn periodically. With Gyro Aim enabled in Dusk, leading the boomerang throw onto the Skulltula is significantly easier.

Phase breakdown

Phase 1

Two vine tentacles emerge from pools of water with bulbous heads. Target the Skulltula hanging from the ceiling above each vine — throw the Gale Boomerang at the Skulltula first, then chain the throw onto the vine head before it closes. The vine head recoils, stunned. Repeat for both.

Reminder: The Gale Boomerang's chain feature is the key. Hold Z to target the Skulltula, then add the vine head as a secondary target before releasing.

Phase 2

A massive central head rises from the ground. Throw the Gale Boomerang at a Bombling (explosive creature) in the arena, chain the throw onto the main eye, and the explosion stuns it. Run in and slash the eye rapidly with your sword. Repeat 3 times.

Reminder: After the explosion, you have approximately 4 seconds of stun time. Use Jump Attack (Z + A in air) for extra damage.

Loot & aftermath

  • Heart Container
  • First Fused Shadow

Difficulty recap: Easiest boss in the game. Serves as a tutorial for the Gale Boomerang mechanics.

After the cinematic

Dungeon exits often dunk you straight into Twilight sweeps or escort chatter. Before roaming, snag heart containers, note any cinematic item unlocks feeding the next temple, then save—Post-boss euphoria is when players forget Poe windows or daytime-only bugs.

  • Open the dungeon map screen once outdoors to cement exit warp positions.
  • Review quest log prompts if HUD minimalism hides the next waypoint.
  • Cross-check rewards above against completion tracking if you are hunting achievements or 100%.
